WordPress released it’s newest version on the first of this month, which means it’s time to upgrade! If you aren’t currently on WordPress you might have heard some things about it that just aren’t accurate. Here are three of the most common lies about the most widely used CMS on the web.

“It’s Just For Blogging”

This one makes me laugh because of how versatile WordPress is in reality. You can build anything from a free blogging website to a $3,000 local business website to a  complex six figure website.

We’ve see and built these types of websites. I can point you to countless beautiful functioning websites that have been built on the WordPress platform. If you head over to the showcase on the WP site you’ll be able to see what I mean when I say that I chuckle when people say it’s just for blogging. Here are just a few examples from the showcase:

“There’s Not Enough Support”

If you were to google “WordPress Support” you would find that the community surrounding the topic of support is really quite astounding. Here’s a few facts regarding the WP support forum:

  • There are 37,800 pages of topics in the forums. Most of those have multiple posts beneath them.
  • Regarding WordPress “Hot-To and Troubleshooting” there are currently 1,381,645 posts and 398,877 topics.
  • There are many companies that specialize in WordPress support such as WP Site Care and Maintainn.

“WordPress is For Noobs”

If you don’t know what a “noob” defined by dictionary.com…

a newbie, especially a person who is new to an online community and whose online participation and interactions display alack of skill or knowledge.

Meaning that WordPress is for those who can’t on the web today. I would counter that WordPress is for those who can AND those who cannot. The simple backend user experience makes life for the technologically challenged easier and the robust framework creates endless possibilities for the technologically savvy. It really is the best of both worlds.
