A common question we get from a lot of our clients is, “Does Google Ads help SEO?” This is a great question that we’ve all wondered about at some point. Let’s face it – wouldn’t it be awesome if you could just make your website rank higher and get tons of free traffic just by throwing some money at Google and buying a few ads?
Unfortunately (or fortunately?), it just doesn’t work that way. Buying Google Ads does not help your company website’s SEO. Spending money on ads won’t make you rank higher.
But Google Ads, according to this site, are definitely a great option for promoting your products and services, so let’s talk about that.
In this post we’re going to cover:
Search engine optimization (SEO) is one of the most cost-effective ways to get your Local Client to your website for a variety of reasons. First of all, it’s basically free (if you do it all yourself), or at least it can be very low-cost when you look at the long-term results. Plus, once your site has earned the trust of search engines and is ranking for a variety of keywords, you can get plenty of free traffic for years to come based on the work that you put in today.
So the ROI for SEO is going to be much higher compared to some other methods of getting traffic to your website.
But the downside of SEO, especially for a new company or a company that is only now beginning to build its presence online, is that it can take months or even years before you start to see any significant results, depending on the competitiveness of your primary keywords and your niche.
This is where Google Ads comes to the rescue.
When done right, Google Ads can get you traffic almost immediately. You can put up a brand new website for your business, launch an ad campaign and literally get traffic within hours.
Now whether those new visitors convert into leads and sales is another matter, but the point is that Google Ads can be very effective at driving traffic to your landing pages – even when your website isn’t seeing much traffic from search engines.
Google Ads are also effective for businesses that are already getting decent results with SEO. If you and your team are huge traffic stats nerds like we are, then you probably cringe every time your website traffic takes a nosedive, even if it’s just for a few days.
Using PPC ads regularly can help even out your results when search traffic levels are fluctuating. This makes it less likely for your online sales pipeline to completely dry up when your site is doing the Google Dance.
Another great thing about Google Ads is that they give you a lot of control in getting the attention of your target demographic, as mentioned in a recent blog post here, “How to Generate More Leads From Your Google Ads Campaign.”
For example, you can target your ads to only be shown during your store hours, to people using mobile devices or to customers close to your location. This precision can save you a lot of wasted effort and advertising dollars, so it’s a smart move for any small business with a limited marketing budget.
Before reading this blog post you might have been wondering whether you should invest in SEO or Google Ads. But hopefully, by now you realize these are two completely different methods of marketing your business online. And both of them work together to deliver strong benefits for your business.
So if you’ve been hammering on content marketing and SEO, keep doing it, even if you aren’t seeing immediate results. Those efforts will likely pay off later on down the road. However, you still have bills to pay right now, so you should also invest in PPC ads to try to boost your sales in the meantime.
Online advertising isn’t some kind of hipster trend that will go out of style any day now. The internet is the future.
Ecommerce is the future of business, and digital marketing is the future of advertising. Businesses that want to evolve, survive and thrive will need to learn how all this works and how to maximize their ad spend going forward.
