Google. We’ve all heard of it. We all use it to help us find the things we need. Everyday. Google is an ever evolving beast that works to bring you the most accurate results possible. It’s like they can read your mind and it’s actually pretty scary (when they do)! Nevertheless, it’s becoming an increasingly competitive and important game to climb the ranks of both organic and paid search. As Seattle’s #1 Marketing Firm (disclaimer: this is a self proclaimed award, but if you Google “Seattle Marketing Firm”, we’re at the top, so why not?) we’re constantly on watch for these changes that Google brings forward. And this month, we’ve got some news for you: Local Search Ads on Google Maps.

Us humans are already bombarded by advertisements on Social Media, TV, Radio and everywhere else imaginable which in today’s world according to is one of among the fastest and most convenient way of growing viewership. So why would Google go and do such a thing?! The answer is simple: Google Maps has more than 1 billion downloads. And for Google implementing ads here translates into mucho dinero$. There’s a little bit more to it than that but here’s why it’s important to business owners:     

  • Nearly a third of mobile searches are related to location.
  • 84% of consumers conduct local searches.
  • Three out of every four people searching locally on their mobile devices end up visiting a store within 24 hours and 28% of those searches result in a purchase.

On top of local search ads, Google will soon be bringing Promoted Pins to Maps. Remember the competition I mentioned earlier? If we’re talking sports, then this is like the performance enhancers of online marketing. Except this is legal. It’s a little incentive and a great way for you to convince people to stop by your business.

Google is still testing these local search ads and hasn’t revealed a release date but if you know anything about Google, you know that it’ll be relatively soon. Their never ending quest for world domination continues.
